About the role

Our team designs and manufactures the majority of our components in house and this role will include working closely with our CNC, Fabrication, Electrical design and Programming teams. 

Skills and experience

A minimum requirement is a tertiary engineering qualification with experience in Solidworks producing drawings for an engineering environment.

A keen interest and experience in mechanical engineering would be an advantage. The successful applicant will have an eye for detail, a natural tendency towards accuracy and use their own initiative. Good communication skills are required along with fluency in English.

An understanding of drawing standards and procedures is preferred but not essential.

The position also requires a sound knowledge of Word and Excel applications.

Senior Electrical ENgineer

 As the Senior Electrical Engineer for the company, this role requires a maturity and ability to lead. This role will report to the General Manager and will be required to support the Design Manager and Senior Controls Engineer to establish professional engineering processes and best practices within the company that are appropriate for a high value machinery exporter.

The successful applicant will be required to lead the company in the future product development requirements in respect of both the Electrical and Controls aspects of the machinery and to play a significant role within the company R&D programme.

It will also be required for the Senior Electrical Engineer to have a technical supervision responsibility for the electrical production works within the machinery manufacture and will be required to specify equipment and assist in the electrical procurement.

Integration between the machine controls and the high level (PC) software is a key element of the product design that the Senior Electrical Engineer will be required to collaborate on with the design and controls team.


The role is a key service support role for both customers and overseas distributors, so flexibility is required along with in depth knowledge of machine processes.

Key accountabilities for this role will include:

  • Accountability for focus and driving results in the electrical and controls engineering
  • Manage the electrical design, development and documentation.
  • Supervision of electrical production works
  • Execution of electrical and control R&D projects
  • Produce design and engineering documentation in accordance with best practice
  • Specify electrical equipment and assist with procurement
  • Develop electrical drawings using CAD software
  • Provide support to the Management Team to establish product development budgets
  • Establishment of professional electrical and controls engineering processes
  • Assist with continuous improvement of the engineering processes
  • Research technologies and ensure leadership in the electrical and controls engineering
  • Identify opportunities for cost innovation
  • Provide technical expertise on-demand for customer support cases
  • Collaborate with the high-level software development

What you will be doing

  • Designing and documenting electrical and safety systems.
  • Specifying control cabinet and wiring designs.
  • Building and supervising the build of electrical control systems.
  • Supervising junior electrical engineers.
  • Working with the senior controls Engineer to develop the overall controls system architecture.
  • Working with the Design Manger to integrate the controls hardware into the mechanical design.
  • Quality control and safety checks of machinery prior to commissioning and before shipping.

UI (HMI) Software Developer


Howick Ltd is a world-renowned, roll forming machine manufacturer, based in East Auckland, New Zealand. We design, develop and manufacture steel roll forming machines for international residential and commercial applications ranging from framing systems to bathroom pods.

We have installed machines in over 70 countries, producing custom-made machines to clients’ specifications.

The role focuses on industrial machinery UI and not an office or website software.

An ideal candidate would enjoy working with algorithm while maintaining programming best practice. You need to be able to work with machines and engineering software. Most of the time you’ll be sitting in the office to develop the software but you’ll need to be a hands-on person as well.

Criteria for the role:

  • Gained a New Zealand Bachelor Degree in Computer Science
  • Experience in data processing, such as List and Array, in C/C++/C#/LabView/Matlab or similar language/platform
  • Willing to learn and work on engineering based IDE/platforms that are not on usual programming languages (C#, Java, etc)
  • Experience with database and server configuration
  • Able to work with tight deadlines
  • Able to write technical documentations and communicate articulately in English


Bonus skills if you have some professional experience:

  1. Various Data Frame formats (using wireshark or similar tool)
  2. Label printing data processing
  3. Agile or other similar methodology covering software test, version control, etc
  4. Industrial Automation IoT (Internet of Things)
