Steel framing is made from thin gauge, high tensile steel. This makes the frames approximately a third of the weight of traditional timber framing. Steel components are lighter and stronger than both wood and concrete products. Studies* have shown that steel is 30% lighter than wood and 60% lighter than concrete. 

Because steel weights less, the transport costs are significantly lower^. The lightweight nature of steel means that it is easier to move around - reducing transportation and fuel use.
