Light Gauge Steel Framing (Sherburn) has just completed the installation of two lightweight over-roofing structures on modular residential apartment buildings in Hayes, Middlesex for client Riva Properties. By imaginative use of detailing software, LGSF were able to create a combination of curved and straight purlin frames enabling the structures to support striking sedum roofs and PV panels. By pre-assembling the majority of the frames off-site, LGSF were able to minimise installation time, thus allowing the following trades to start their elements earlier in the build programme. The pre-assembled frames allowed more roof area to be covered in a given timescale than more conventional roofing systems, and from a "green" viewpoint, pre-assembled frames allowed site waste and scrap to be totally avoided. All lightweight framing was detailed on Vertex BD software and manufactured on Howick roll-forming machines. © LGSF 2009
