The project
Framing a commercial building means balancing competing priorities: getting the client moved in as quickly as possible, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. SLS Building Systems and general contractor Regal Construction delivered on all fronts for this three-story office building in Louisiana.
SLS and Regal Construction collaborated on a design that would make the most of offsite prefabrication and streamlined installation onsite. The team chose to prefabricate the building’s cold formed exterior shell to by-pass the floor slabs - allowing several floors to be completed in a single cold formed panel with exterior sheathing applied.
The result? Fewer panel joins, fewer crane lifts, and a faster path to completion.
Saving a month
At SLS’s factory every cold formed exterior wall panel was manufactured on Howick’s FRAMA™ 5600 using a design workflow built on Autodesk Revit with Strucsoft. That workflow, and the precision of the Howick, meant when the panels arrived onsite they were ready to install - no additional cutting, fabrication or sheathing work required.
Fabrication of the completed panels offsite took just 3.5 days. If the framing had been field-installed, this would have taken a month, requiring sheathing and fall protection, creating greater project congestion and multiple lifts surrounding the building.

With only five workers the exterior shell of the building was completed in 4-5 days. Using traditional onsite building methods,
it would have taken four times as long.
In the meantime, every trade benefited from the accelerated schedule. Regal was able to waterproof the building’s exterior while roofing work progressed simultaneously. The compressed timeline also allowed interior trades to start sooner and work more efficiently, reducing congestion and keeping the project moving smoothly.
